Here's what Doug has to say about the winning MorphMonday photo:
Congratulations Jim Smith!
I chose your image of this small church for this weeks #MorphMonday challenge! As you mentioned, these blank grey skies can be wonderful canvases for textural treatments, and your hilltop composition of the old church and graveyard spoke to me of silence, history, and passage. KInd of a timely sentiment as we say farewell to 2017! (BTW Happy new year everyone!)
Here's my process in brief:
I added your image to our Photomorphis Texture Bites V4 #3 file, retouched out the church sign, changed the file into a Smart Object and applied our Photomorphis BlendKit "Old West" Camera Raw preset to it.
I flattened the image, then selected the highlights which I lifted to a new layer. I added a gaussian blur to the highlights and set the layer blend mode to screen, softening the highlights in the image.
I love the resulting "old historical photo" quality as well as the tranquil quietness of this monotone scene. I'd love to know your thoughts!
You can find the TextureBites and BlendKits that I used for this MorphMonday in our store. Thanks to everyone who submitted images this past week and I'm looking forward to seeing what you all come up with for next week! Watch for this weeks announcement on our Facebook Page.
Happy New Year - Doug
